How many times we hired a car in Sardinia and drove from Cagliari to Villasimius Luca? Many..but many times we did not even reach it..

There are too many others beautiful places in between.. the journey in itself is spectacular if you can relax and enjoy the views. ..as I normally do. Off course, if you are driving, you must focus on the many narrow bends up and down this road.. as normally Luca does..

The mountains, on your left, fall spectacularly down into the sparkling and crystal sea on your right. I know these bays like my pockets now and still they have the power to impress me.

When I use to live in Sardinia I would go often to “Cala Regina”. This is a beautiful little rocky beach ideal for the diving lovers. Not very comfortable tough! Just after”Cala Regina” there is another place called “Riu Murtaucci” which is a good place to go on the night of San Lorenzo, on the 10 of August.

Do you know what San Lorenzo is? It is the night of the shooting stars. I have always spent this night on the beach to see them, when living in Sardinia. In Riu Murtaucci there are not artificial lights, the sky is black as charcoal and you can lie down, listed to the waves and watch millions of billions of sparkling stars. When you see your shooting star you must express your wish.

My favorite “cala” though is Mari Pintau, which in English would sounds like “painted sea” because of its beautiful shades of blue, light blue, green. It is not a big beach and there is nothing there..no bars, no shops, no kiosks. There is a sandy side of the beach but for the rest is just little cobbles. .

If you prefer sandy flat beaches you only need to continue to Baccu Mandara. Beautiful. This is were my parents use to take me when I was a kid..so many memories!

and finally, do not miss the opportunity to stop at sunset time in one of the viewing points on the way back!

If you don’t feel like coming back though, you’ll find many hotels and resorts or you could rent a villa or an apartment in Torre dell Stelle, and still in 40 minutes be in Cagliari and in one hour at the airport.

Top Tips:

In the high season there is a lot of traffic on this road and plenty of adventures bikes that will try to overtake you from everywhere..Be careful!

In most of these places there are not bars or catering services, so take drinks and food with you. On the road from Cagliari there are bars and restaurants so you can stop by and buy some.
